The MIT IDE (Initiative on the Digital Economy) is a team of visionary, internationally recognized thought leaders and researchers who examine how people and businesses work, interact, and will ultimately prosper in a time of rapid digital transformation.
The IDE team frequently collaborates with Gravity Switch to produce a variety of marketing projects. My job? Provide engaging visuals and layouts that capture the pioneering work that IDE represents while following and extending their established brand guidelines. The award-winning items I produced included event logos and summaries, annual reports, digital assets for cross-channel promotions, a PowerPoint presentation template, an email newsletter template, and podcast artwork.
SCOPE OF WORK
- Event Branding
- Event logo
- Digital event report
- Multichannel assets
In 2022, IDE was holding its inaugural CMO Summit@MIT, an exclusive event for senior marketing executives exploring how digital technology was revolutionizing the current and future market. However, the IDE team needed a logo and event-specific branding to distinguish and promote the summit.
Leveraging the nostalgic styles of the 80's and early 90's, we created a visual identity that nodded to the days of futuristic tech gone by while embracing where the industry was heading. We utilized both IDE's core color palette and expanded it to include additional colors and gradients specifically for the event. Typography was selected that reinforced the dynamism and excitement that surrounds the cutting-edge of technology. We also integrated illustrations rendered for the summit by an artist hired for the event.
The branding culminated in a digital event report and accompanying graphic assets used for promotion and marketing communications. The result was a visually striking brand that both turned heads and won awards.

ROLE
- Graphic Design
While the CMO Summit branding could utilize new, unique design elements that were not defined in the IDE's brand guidelines, materials such as the 2022 Annual Report and an informational brochure about the IDE had to closely adhere to their existing brand identity.
The informational brochure was created to generate new memberships and investments into the pioneering research work that the IDE does. Through dynamic uses of layout, color, and imagery I created an engaging brochure that clearly communicated their impact and inspired the reader to get involved. These striking visual elements were further reinforced and expanded upon in the design and layout for their 2022 Annual Report.
In addition to the design work for the documents, I also created graphic assets for both projects that were used for promotional purposes on the IDE's website, newsletter, and social media channels.

Scope of Work:
- Podcast cover art
- Promotional graphic assets
The IDE was in the early stages of planning a new podcast hosted by their director, Sinan Aral, when they reached out for help with artwork for both cover art and digital promotional graphics to use on social media. I explored a variety of different creative directions, ranging from graffiti art styles to ones that adhered strictly to their brand guidelines. What resulted was a cover and correlating promotional materials that utilized their dynamic, less-used yellow brand color (instead of the predictable MIT red) together with a striking photo of the podcast's host.
